Monthly Archives: May 2016

We had high hopes of camping Memorial weekend at Capt Cook like last year, hiking the trails, running the beach, and a day trip into the cabin, but no such luck. A blowout on the trailer tire and showing up two hours later than last year meant no open spots. What to do, what to do….
We ended up at Swiftwater which is pretty nice and not at all crowded right now.
The kids spent their first night alone in a tent. Just steps outside of our motorhome of course. I am proud of them for toughing it out. It wasn’t too cold last night.
Now what to do today…
We went over to the beach in Kenai for some 4wheeling.

Saw a friend on the beach. Rode way out farther than I’ve gone before, almost to the LPG plant dock. Saw some cool old fish camp shacks.

And a few fellas panning for gold. Then we came back to camp. Took a long siesta. Then campfire time, roasting some hot dogs and “smarshmallows” as Lil Bit calls them. I made some chicken and beef kabobs that Dean grilled to perfection.

Lil Mister tries his first roasted marshmallow, he likes it!
Now to sit back, relax and zap some Skeeter’s.

Yesterday the guys worked here at home prepping for the next job.

Lil Mister was entirely too pleased to be able to participate. He was both foreman and tool boy.

After an entire day outside with Dad he was tuckered out.

Check out my rhubarb. It is growing too fast to keep up with.

Both of these patches need to be thinned this year.

I wanted a chalkboard in the kitchen that was both functional and an artistic statement. So I went floor to ceiling.

Put the big clock up top,

Some fun doodles to represent our blended family and inspiration.

The kids and I all enjoy our various moments of creativity and keep our drawings up for awhile then  start  over.

Chalky snapshots of our life.

Fried morels.

These babies are the last of ’em.

And a few of them are stuffed with Kenai Cheese dip. Oh yeah.

My shaggy boys needed a trim. Here’s the results.

Things are greening up quickly. Picked a few rhubarb stalks and some chives.

image

Then the kids and I headed out to hunt some morels. They are quite abundant this year after last year’s fires.

image

We picked a nice batch. I cleaned enough to whip up some creamy morel pasta. Oh yeah, it is good.

Might have to have seconds… Is your mouth watering?

The weather is about a month ahead of itself, pretty warm today, mid 70s. Kids were hot…

image

Lil Bit wanted the pool filled so her and Lil Mister could play.

They soaked long enough to shrivel up their fingers. Then off to play in the dirt.

Oh the joys of being a kid.
