Hanukkah started tonight, first of eight nights commemorating the rededication of the temple after the Greeks defiled it.

Each night we light a candle and reflect on Abba’s provisions. Tonight we remembered the creation of light.
We also give gifts. Usually small tokens to start the festival and then some larger things towards the end.

The munchkins got new gloves and  family game, Lewis & Clark. It’s along the lines of Oregon Trail as a board game. Looking forward to some family game nights!

Oh how the world shuts down (if you’re a kid)!

Woke up early on the 16th with what I hoped was a short-lived stomach bug. But by 9 am I knew it wasn’t typical, the severity of the pain and location were just not right. I dealt with it all day, in bed. Dean came over to help keep kids quiet so I could rest. Moira came over with food and comfort and oils. I made use of everything I could think of to help ease my own suffering. Hoping to myself, sure hope the kids don’t get this!

By 12 hours I’d had it. No improvement in pain although it had moved and centralized in my lower right abdomen, yeah I had an inclination. I made the decision to have it checked out, and Dean drove me to the ER around 6 pm.

Have I mentioned my dislike of allopathic ways and conventional medical treatments? Some of you are aware… So you know it was bad for me to go in.

Dean had returned home to stay with the kids. So I was chilling solo in the hospital. Kind’ve an odd place to be alone.

A few hours later I had the diagnosis, appendicitis, immediate surgery needed.

Things moved pretty quickly and by 11:43 I was rousing from the anesthetic. That was fast.
Recovery has been interesting what with Lil Mister and all. I’ve taken three good shots to the midsection thanks to him. And the stress of it all has taken its toll on the bigger kids. But hopefully I’m close to that turning point of lessened pain. And although healing is far from over with, maybe life won’t be quite so hard with Mama not completely MIA.

Many thanks to my friends and family who’ve prayed for, thought of & checked on me and kept my mind occupied. Special thanks to Dean, Moira, Niki & Zach for their help and support.

It’s good to be home.

We stopped at the museum to meet a new friend and distract ourselves after dropping Cletus off at the airport. Lots of neat things there.

Moose sculpture outside.

Munchkins in front of the raven.

There was a seastar tank, a king crab tank and a snapping turtle tank.

This fun little contraption let’s them pull themselves up with a rope then slowly drop back down.

There were all sorts of neat exhibits: giant bubble maker, science experiments. Native Alaskan Heritage, and beautiful art work. We must go back to see more!

“Dead Indian Stories” by Edgar Heap of Birds, 2012-2014 Ink on rag paper.

Ta ta for now.

Bye Cletus, see you soon.

It’s always bittersweet to end my Seester time. I so enjoyed having Claire, John and Bryan here. Getting to share my Alaska with people I love…. Priceless.

I can’t wait till next time!!!

Took the kids out for some fun, Cabin Fever Creations and ceramic painting.

Lots of paint and glaze every where.

Cletus, Thing 1 and I went for pedicures. Thing 1’s first time!

She wasn’t so sure she liked done strange  touching her feet and legs!

But she got some pretty blue piggy paint.

My tootsies way out there.

We saw quite a few waterfalls on our adventure, a couple over at Seward.

And of course this one outside Anchorage.

We headed over to Seward after panning for gold, to see Exit Glacier. It has been 20+ years since I first saw it and I was really shocked at how much it had receded.

From a ways back.

You can see a cave where the water has etched away at the underside.

Claire, John & Bryan in front of the glacier at the end of the hiking trail.

All along the trail and drive in are these signs that show the process of glacial melt and recession.

When we finished our hike we drove into and around Seward.

Panoramic of Resurrection Bay at Seward.

John digging on sloughed off bluff.

We were about halfway up…

Long ways down.

Bryan took pictures of the beautiful sunrise.
