I’m halfway into 30 days of Thankfulness and it’s been a real trip with Cletus here. Plus having some down time from work allows me to spend more with her.
I know she’ll be leaving soon so we’ve got to get the last little bit of fun in before she goes.
It’s supposed to snow quite a bit tonight into tomorrow. I’m thankful for the snow, for more than the beauty it brings. Snow means insulation for underground pipes so they won’t freeze as easily. Snow means fun for the kiddos, sledding and snow ball fights. It means snow machine rides and breathing fresh air. Snow is fun for the dog to play in, she loves the snow too.
Also, it means income from snow removal. So I say let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

So much fun. We went out to Dad’s cabin last night. I got to share my Quiet Riot with my Seester.

Then on our way home we spent some time stopping to take pictures and explore. It was great fun.

We saw a sow black bear and her cub at Stormy Lake day use area. That was pretty cool.

We stopped at an old cabin that’s for sale on the highway near the bluff. I’ve wanted to stop there for years and just never have taken the time.

We stopped at Three Bears for a few groceries, and a bear trap.

It was a great day of experiences with my Seester. So thankful for this opportunity.

Today I woke up to snow. Blowing snow. And cold. I’m thankful for my warm gear and good snow tires and four wheel drive trucks.

It’s too warm to stick but it was really coming down this morning.

The kids have been enjoying their new sleds at home. The driveway is well packed down and they can get a pretty good run going.
Little Mister has been learning to ride Lil’ Bit’s snow machine. He’s doing pretty good. Takes it nice and easy so far. His Dad packed down a trail around the cabin so he could get some practice laps in. Then he took him out on the trail for a longer ride.

Snow + warmer temps + rain = ice

It’s been a while since I last posted. I’m happy to say that I recovered well from my surgery.
My birthday came and looked like it would be a non event but my dear friend Moira had other plans. She invited us over for spaghetti dinner complete with a delicious GF chocolate birthday cake. With her hubby and our 9 kids (together) we enjoyed a rather boisterous rendition of “Happy Birthday” and some cake & ice cream.
But that didn’t end the beauty of the night! A couple of great gifts, one of which is a lavender bead which contains ashes from the last eruption of Mr. Redoubt. This is very precious to me. Dad sent me ashes from that eruption. It is my Alaska bead and I wear it proudly in my locs!
From there we had a blowout Hanukkah. The kids are totally spoiled and I should tell them no more presents next year. We enjoyed spending Hanukkah with our friends at MoAdim and with Moira. I had quite the busy holiday season with parties galore, including a big bash with all these children that I and Moira and Niki and Shawna have collected!! I lost count of all of them. We are blessed with friends for sure.
New Year’s came in and lots of bangs were heard. Alaskans do love their illegal fireworks on New Year’s.
And now here we are in February. Winter is still going strong with frequent snowfall and much colder temps than we’ve experienced since moving here.
My job has been great with indoor work for the majority of the season. But that is coming to an end here shortly. Our commercial addition is near complete and we’ll be moving onto a new cabin build in Kenai.
I’m looking forward to this build since I drew up the plans for inspection. It feels good to have your work complemented!
Well that’s pretty much it for the time being. Hope you enjoyed our little update.
It snowed Sunday night, our first snow as Alaska residents. The kids got to go outside while it was coming down just for a few minutes since it was late and getting dark. The next day, I had an off day from work and after we tidied up the house they got to go outside and really play in the snow. We only got a couple of inches this time, so not really enough to make anything dynamic with it, but fun to play in none-the-less.

The girls wanted to snowball fight but for some reason, their brother did not. Hmmm, me thinks they were ganging up on him.
Today they are only enjoying the snow from the window sill, coughs and sniffles are keeping them inside. 😦
But we will survive by baking some banana bread!
