No dogs we’re harmed in the making of these photos.
Happy New Year y’all. Woof! 🐾
Sitting with my Bergie, grooming him, petting him, offering him any comfort I can in his last moments. How many, I don’t know, but I feel that it’s imminent.
I hope that I’ve done right by him. I pray his transition is peaceful. I thank Adonai for blessing our home with His creature.
I’m the type that needs ritual, needs to acknowledge my grief and the life it represents. I found some guidance and comfort here.

ETA: my sweet boy Bergie passed over the rainbow bridge about 20 mins after I posted this, about 11:45 pm.

It’s been a different strange sort of three weeks since I started this series. Nothing like I expected for sure but good non-the-less. Having my sister come was certainly a good change of pace. Now life feels slow and dull without her bubbly energy. 🤪 Trying to “go back to normal” is hard. Lol
Coming off the high of her visit to the low of Bergie getting sick has been extra hard. But we’re persevering. One day at a time.
Thing 1 has been helping with Bergie. She’s been assisting with his medication, which of course he hates. She’s also been his preferred company, laying down and cuddling with him. I’m thankful for the help.
Tonight is the blood moon eclipse. We are excited to see and experience this once in a lifetime version. Watching the celestial bodies dance is always awe inspiring. We should be able to see sometime around 9 pm our time.
Many things to be thankful for. The every day things, they’re the most important.

We’ve been medicating the Old Man cat for three days now and he has perked up quite a bit. We added some pet CBD oil to the mix as well. He’s been up and down the stairs multiple times today. I take it as a good sign that he’s not in as much pain.

His presence is reassuring to us but distressing to the silly dog! Lol
One day at a time.

If I had to pick just one word to describe what Bergie has done for our family it is enriched. He has brought a level of joy and love to us that only a pet can.

In the beginning days Lil’ Mister was just a rambunctious toddler and pulled, poked and prodded him unmercifully. But Bergie was patient with him and never bit him or scratched him.

One day Bergie had decided that Lil Mister was old enough to know better and he started to gently protest the pokes and pulls with smacks without claws. These progressed as Lil Mister grew until the claws came out. The rough toddler treatment was curtailed!

He likes to cuddle at night. He used to sleep with me but when I moved upstairs he started sleeping in the girls’ room, mostly with Thing 1.

He’s not fond of the dog. Not one bit. He’s been tolerant of her but an occasional smack to the nose sends her packing.

He has become such a mainstay in our house, it’s hard to imagine life without him.
But that is what we must do. We got some bad news at the vet’s today and our sweet old boy won’t be here much longer. Leukemia. He’s on respite care essentially. We’re taking it one day at a time and giving him extra special loves and care.

I’m ever so thankful to have the chance to love this cat. To have my kids grow up with him, learn to care for and love him. To be good stewards of one of G-d’s creatures.
It’s never easy to say goodbye. But we’re thankful for whatever time we have left. B’H.
She’s like a little kid. Whenever I come home from the store she’s checking the bags and looking at me with those “did you gets me new toy?” eyes.
She may be a little spoiled. But I’d rather her chew up a cheap toy than my Birkies. Lol
She immediately goes for the squeekies. They drive her nuts. She just has to kill them.

So excited to get a new toy. We usually time her to see how long the squeeky lasts. The first one she popped about 7 minutes in. The second one lasted a little longer.
But she hasn’t completely destroyed the toy yet. It’s lasting a lit longer than some of the others have.

Panda Bear, as cute and good natured as she is, has one major flaw, she likes to roam. She comes by it naturally, her dad Kevin is infamous for his long Walk-Abouts and car rides to McDonald’s for ice cream with complete strangers. But that’s another story for another time.
She usually goes to one of three places: the neighbor’s house through the woods behind the sawmill because the ‘ol Captain has a playful Black Lab about her age and they like to get into mischief. Or she goes up to another neighbor’s house down the street who also has a dog that she plays with. But mostly she goes to Jake’s house.
Jake being her first hooman to know and love. One of two hoomans she gets so excited about that she pees a little. (Mo is the other!) Jake’s house being where her mom Sarah and brother Hank live. You see, Panda is just a social butterfly and has a lot of friends. She has places to go and doggos to see.
She either comes home in an hour or so or Jake calls to say, hey, are you missing something? Come get your dog. Or generally being a good sport, he brings her home.
But not so last night. Dean had her outside, as usual. He’s out there with her always, she doesn’t get to just be outside unsupervised. But as soon as you turn your back she is like Casper the Ghost. Quietly and quickly without notice she’s completely gone. Last night was just such an escape.
She was gone for 4 hours. Dean and the kids, and Jake too, we’re all out looking for her. The kids rode the wheelers around all over the neighborhood calling for her but she didn’t come home. I went looking for her on my way home from grocery shopping, stopping to talk to neighbors, with no luck. She was just gone. We were starting to get really concerned.
Then I get a call from a friend that she saw a post on Facebook with Panda in it, so she message me the info and I called and left a message. Then I rushed into to pull up the post and respond to it directly.

She was down the road a little bit farther and they had her inside. Before I could get ahold of them, Jake knew where they lived so he just went and picked her up. He’s such a softy when it comes to these critters. He brought her home and she’s both loved and welcomed home and scolded for running off. Giving us such a fright.
These four-legged friends sure do impact us. We’re happy she’s home but dang she sure is hard to break from running off exploring.
She’s lost her tag -again- with my number on it, which makes it harder to get her back. So once again I’ll try to get a replacement for her. Too bad they don’t make them big enough to print:
Hi, my name is Panda Bear, I’m on a walk-about, I like to meet new friends. I’ll go home so don’t put me inside. I’m happy with my home, I get fed and lots of attention, I’m just a free spirit, social butterfly. Nice to meet you. If you can call my hooman Mom and let her know where I’m at, that would be great.
The Life of Panda Bear
Even today, still another friend noticed the post and messaged me. Everyone loves Panda. Thanks to all of you good hoomans who help look out for, care for and return my doggo… Juni, Chris, Jake, Shelly & Skyler. ❤️
